fading parts of a title in premier

Post by burntoast » Thu Dec 26, 2002 11:47 pm

i've read my book on using titles in premier and i've tried this out in premier itself.. but i can't seem to figure it out. ok, i've got three lines of text in my title, and i wanna start off with the very top one. after that i want the second to fade in and then the third. i've tried using rubberbands to see if i could make several ones in the title and, but there can only be one.. this seems easy to do, so someone plz spill the beans.

Brute force is the easiest option in this instance.

Create three images like so:
title01.gif
Image
title02.gif
Image
title03.gif

Set them up on the timeline like so:

That should do what you want it to do.

It's annoying and tedious. Premiere doesn't have that create of text options.

As the old Perl wisdom goes: There's more than one way to do it.

- Split the text up into three tracks and fade each of them in seperately.

- Use a PNG filled with black (or whatever your background color is), with the alpha channel in a gradient from 1 (full) -> 0 (transparent). Start the PNG so that it completely obscures the text. Move the PNG so that it makes the text appear to "fade" in. Modify procedure as needed.

- Do it frame-by-frame and import the resulting sequence into Premiere. (Not recommended.)

- Use feathered masks (does Premiere have those, or is it an AE thing?)

thanks, it seems to be the animation i want, but there's still some probs with it. as title 1 ends in the timeline, title 2 doesn't fades in but rather cuts in. i set the fade in for title 2 so this shouldn't have been a problem.. but it is. :( the second prob is that title 3 is completely white, and the background isn't black, which it should be. any ideas??

thx klinky you solved the problem, but you may wanna post up the real way to place the titles.. and they must overlap one another completely as well. :) we should make a guide! heheh

Yeah well it does WORK the first way if you use image files. But since Adobe sucks, it doesn't work the same way with Title Files(*.ptl).

So you have to place them like so:
