Questions on video hosting

Post by Stryyder » Thu Dec 28, 2006 3:56 pm

Ok, here's a situation:

I have several videos that I would like to make available streaming or for download. Not all of these videos fit into the guidelines of a-m-v.org (i.e. not anime.) I do NOT want to use a free site such as Youtube to stream these.

Basically I am looking to build my own website to host these videos. I have a basic knowledge in HTML and not much knowledge in flash, javascript or the likes. However, I am quick to learn, especially with computer apps, I just need a jolt in the right direction. So what I'm asking is:

1: What would I need to host these videos (again, NOT a free service. I am willing to pay hosting fees)? FTP? other source?

2: What "Language" would best be used to stream and/or make these available for download? (Java, HTML?)

Any help would be very much appreciated.

If you buy a host... you can embed the video into the site using html. I don't have the code at my disposal ATM, but I'm sure if you google HTML Embed, you could find it. I've done it in the past and works pretty well, but not for dial-up users :P

As for the host, you can usually just FTP it onto your server like you would your HTML files. Just be sure you have the space.

you don't really need to embed a player.
just have a link going straight to the video file, and it'll play with the user's default player for that format. and if it can't play, it downloads.
