Ok, so I got my video out and I'm happy, but I'm eager to improve more.
I have an anime and a song in mind, but I've sort of run into a problem.
For my last AMV my source footage came from 2 OVAs, about an hour or so long. As uncompressed Huffys, these were about 25gb each. Sure, they were a pain in the butt, but my 200gb hard drive could handle them.
The problem being, that my source for my next AMV is going to be a saga within a series, spanning about 17 20 minute episodes. I don't think there's a way for my HD to take the kind of punishment associated with that many uncompressed video files.
I prefer to edit footage in premiere with the source footage in its entirety imported into the project, because I'll never really know what I'll need, or if something comes up, or if I suddenly get inspired, etc.
I guess I have a few questions.
1) Is a d2v file larger or smaller than a HuffyUV of the same video file?
*I'm assuming the d2v is of equal video quality to a Huffy, correct me if I'm wrong.*
2) If it is larger or the same size, am I essentially screwed and forced to use clips or get a larger HD?
3) If a d2v is significantly smaller, can I use an AVS script to feed it into Premiere 6.0 with DirectShowSource? Essentially, I'd edit with the mjpegs, and bait/switch them for the AVS scripts pointing to the d2vs when it comes time to export.

a "d2v" file is a text file more or less... thats all. so technically, yes it's a lot smaller. you either 1) have to cut parts out of the huffyuvs... or 2) read the guides so you can learn how d2vs work and how much space they really take up
if you're "using d2v's" then your "size" will be as big as the dvd is. if you're not using a dvd then... you must be using mpeg2 files you downloaded or something.
as for using avisynth scripts in premiere, you you use mpeg2source() to import d2v files not directshow source. again, read the guides
hope that helps somewhat.

Your best bet, aside from a general slowdown when seeking/scrubbing/previewing footage, is to edit off the d2v files via AviSynth (MPEG2Source()) and the Premeire AVS plugin. Here's a handy dandy link to the EADFAG page on editing with AVS files.
Compared to converting whole DVDs worth of episodes to Huffyuv, Lagarith, or egads, Uncompressed, editing with the AVS files is MUCH more HDD space-friendly. Just expect to lose a bit of 'snap' in your editing program when moving around in the timeline.
