Treasure Trove!

Upon looking around the internet for a straight "made for dummies" free DVD to Mpeg converter (of which I have not found. any suggestions welcome) I found this:

This is huge list of special effects and effects creation software. However this list is full of complications (reason for not just throwing it on the free software thread). Half of those on the list are freeware/open beta. Some of them have different functions. Others are are from diffewrent countries (meaning tutorial = shit), Japan being the most prevalent.

Since I don't have time to go over find out what's what, I was wondering if some of you guys could sort through it. Also does anyone know Japanese? The really good free ones are actually in japanese (http://www.audiovisualizers.com/toolsha ... va/cva.htm <---CVA+ is just one example of one I'd like to play with) and I'm wondering if some translation work can be done.

The site appears to have guy who knows how helm a community and also seems to be updated regularly.
