I don't know if anybody has done this before, but I was thinking that this could be a way to easily get rid of subtitles.
Making two black bars(so it's like widescreen, except it's covering the subtitled part of the clip) in an art program that lets you have transparent layers. I've tried it in GIMP, and the only problem is that WMM won't let the transparancy of a layer show, so it's all black instead of being transparent in the middle...(I'm very sorry if you can't get this...I'm not sure how to put it...)
Has anybody done this? And if you have, what format should you save it in? Cropping an episode with VirtualDub is just as useful, but it takes up much more harddrive space than making one picture.

BTW, it's a very common practice. Nonetheless, congratulations for thinking it up on your own. Most people don't even try.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.
