I've had to use AVIcodec to diagnose issues with my output from my video editor(s). Without it, I wouldn't have been able to figure why VirtualDubMod kept on refusing to join the two segments of a video export together. It turned out that the framerate of one segment was a tiny bit off at 29.96 fps instead of 29.97 fps. I re-exported that segment, which finally came out at the proper 29.97 fps, and finished the video.

That being said, the inclusion of this type of utility program into the AMVapp is probably not really necessary. I could have examined the Huffyuv AVI in VirtualDubMod and retrieved the same information. Although it is handy to use, due to AVIcodec (and GSpot) being in a file's right click menu, it doesn't directly come into play during AMV creation.
