meGUI: no audio (not a muxing Q)

Post by Gepetto » Sun Aug 20, 2006 6:36 pm

I searched and I found quite a few threads here asking if meGUI doesn't encode audio, but I'm not here to ask why it isn't auto-muxed into my video file. It's another problem.

None of the codecs on the pull-down list for audio encoding work. I tried pointing to my script and a .wav file I exported from Premiere (I altered the audio from the original, so I can't use the wav from the CD). I have all the files deemed necessary by Sharktooth on the doom9 thread. But according to the log, I'm missing a dll. The Update dialog was unable to download neroaacenc, and I tried several times.

I then attempted to install meGUI on my brother's computer. During the initial update, neroaacenc did not download. I restarted meGUI and tried again, this time neroaacenc downloaded and unfolded into 14 different files, all of which had problems installing, with the same error: "the path to save <file> is invalid". My brother's computer came with Nero 6 installed, and I'm not sure if it's a legal version so that might explain it. Mine, however, is legal.

Normally I'd think something was wrong with the server I was pulling the file from, but since it's called neroaacenc, shouldn't at least the mp3 profile work?

I am just so completely vexed by this that my head hurts. I can convert an mp3 with dBpowerAMP or better yet with BeSweetGUI (which I'm pretty sure can also encode AAC audio) but meGUI is supposed to work, and I just hate it when things don't. Any help on this matter would be more than appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

sorry for the double post. I looked again, and the 14 files are actually separate from the nero file. Among them are "fluxsmooth" and "dgdecode" and since no video software other than CCCP and bspalyer are installed on my brother's computer, it makes sense that they have no save paths. Still no luck with nero, though.

memory problem when encoding audio

Post by Gepetto » Sun Aug 27, 2006 5:12 pm

I spent a few days clueless about why meGUI wasn't encoding any audio at all. In my dumbness, it took me a while to realize that Nero Media Encoder was available for free from the official website, but it didn't fix my problem. mp3, vorbis, LAAC, none of the available formats worked. I remembered to look in the log (sometimes the program would close when I clicked the start button on the queue, but sometimes it would just report "error"). The log accused a memory problem. Reinstalling didn't fix the problem, and I don't know what to do with it. This is the message from the log:

the code is for ND AAC, but the same memory lines were accused with every single one of the profiles (except CT AAC, for which I on't have the program installed)

At this point, you might want to encode the audio separately and mux it with MP4box (or YAMB, if you need a GUI) if the video encodes properly. As discussed here and a guide at Doom9.org for creating MP4 files.

I have a feeling that you may have a hardware issue with memory. This is a total shot in the dark so I may be way off base. If you can, try yanking out half of your RAM and trying again.

I can't yank out my RAM, I'm on laptop.

The video encode works fine, and I'm encoding aac audio with dBpowerAMP. meGUI's MP4 muxer works sometimes, others it doesn't (and I can't see why, since I tried several times with the exact same files and output names). I'm using YAMB because I already had it for muxing subtitles into my videos.
