Using Virtual Dub to do the compression. Help

Post by varxtis » Wed Aug 17, 2005 7:36 pm

Okay. It s been a while (close to a year) since I have actually tried to make an AMV. I have messed around with After Affects and, with the exception of not knowing how to cut a clip at the precise keyframe, I like the program. (it would kinda be nice if I could organize my footage using Premiere and then transfer it into After Effects. . . But anyway) Within the year I have basically forgotten how to get a decent compression of Vobs to AVIs (Rubbes the back of head out of emberracement ) Madbunny went into great detail regarding this issue with me in the past, and I even have some of the AIM Logs. . .but funny thing is. . . at the end of the Logs, I ran into the same problem I have now.
First I get the Vobs onto my PC using Smart Ripper.
Then I run the VOB through DVD2AVI 1.77.3dg
Then I am suppose to create an AVS file with the scripting that looks like this:
MPEG2Source("H:\Mitsukai Productions Footage\MS Nadesico\NadesicoMovie12.d2v")

Telecide()
Decimate(5)
AssumeFPS(24)
# BicubicResize(640,480)
ConvertToRGB32()

Then I save it (making sure that it is saved as an *.AVS file and not a *.txt
Then I am suppose to be able to open that AVS file in Virtual Dub (verison 1.5.10)
But anytime I try to open up my Avs file in VDUB I get a message like this:
Avisynth Open Failure
Script error: there is no function named "MPEG2Source"
("H:\Mitsukai Productions Footage\MS Nadesico\NadesicoMovie12.avs, line 1")

I have used different version of DVD2AVI, VDub, and Avisynth
Always the same error.
What am I doing wrong?

You don't have the MPEG2Dec plugin for AVISynth.

But with the version of DVD2AVI you mentioned, I don't know which one works: <a href="http://www.avisynth.org/warpenterprises ... 2Dec3DG</a> or <a href="http://neuron2.net/dgmpgdec/dgmpgdec.html">DGMPGDec</a>.

I thank you for the suggestions! I am actually currently using the files from MPEG2Dec3DG for the DVD2AVI. but I am curious. . . how is DGMPGDec to be used? is it to be extracted into it's own folder or is it to be placed in the same directory as the current DVD2AVI, thus overwritting some current files?

Okay, I read through the site. . . and it seems to be more of a program in and of itself. One to replace DVD2AVI. (please correct me if I'm wrong) So .. . . There are two downloads for each version. . . the executable, aswell as the Source code. Am I to download both of them? There wouldn't by chance happen to be an installation for dummies guide for this thing is there. LOL
