What do you mean by their video editing "thing"? If you mean a video editor, DivXNetworks does not make editing software, it only makes the DivX codec and some other misc DivX related applications. The DivX site does link to video editing software and more, but telling us which one you looked at will help us give a recommendation.

My recommendation of what they list for editing apps would be Magix. It's been years since I've used any of their products, but they were easy to use and gave me few problems. Here's their main page Magix. Their most current video editing app is Movie Edit Pro 10 and for only $60! However, don't just go out and buy it, download a demo, read up on forums, and news sites to see if its any good.

I was wondering what the easiest way to get stuff from a DVD to WMM was.

Scintilla has put together a very nice guide for Preparing DVD Footage for Windows Movie Maker 2. Read through it and all the links within it. However, it is highly recommended that you read through AbsoluteDestiny and ErMaC's Guide to All Things Audio and Video first (if you haven't already), since the WMM2 guide assumes you know the basics already. It can seem overwhelming, but just take your time and ask questions along the way if needed.

I wouldn't use Dr. DivX since it is intended and as far as I know can only output files encoded in DivX. If you want to use DVD footage you don't want to degrade the quality by working with DivX files. The whole method listed in the guides allows you to work with the DVD footage directly and even improve the quality.
