Wierd audio playback problem
Recently I encoded the audio for an amv in virtual dub using lame mp3. I first tested the final amv in windows media player classic and everything worked fine. But then i played the amv in the latest version of windows media player and there was no sound. I then did a direct stream copy of the audio and the amv and tested it in windows media player and it worked fine. But i want to use lame mp3 to lower the file size. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Hrm. A few options.
1) WMP doesn't like videos with variable bit rate encoded MP3s. You have to use a constant bitrate encode.
2) MP3s at 224 kbps and over bug WMP. Sometime they work, sometimes they don't. I've heard specifically that 224 kbps is a no-no, for some reason. I've made videos with 320 kbps mp3s without a hitch, but I don't use LAME...
That's all I can think of...

I've had no problems with MP3s of any bitrates in WMP9, but WMP6.4 doesn't like MP3s at 256 and 320 -- you have to skip ahead to some point after the beginning in order to get it to play.
However, I have had problems with high-bitrate MP3 streams in AVI files in WMP9, specifically Trythil's "urban suite".
I've heard that the Radium MP3 codec doesn't have this problem when encoding, but I've never tried it myself...

I said AVI. You can't put a Vorbis audio stream in an AVI file. Hence, I must not be talking about the direct-DL version.bum wrote:Yeah that would be an issue, seeing as the vid's audio is in oggScintilla wrote: However, I have had problems with high-bitrate MP3 streams in AVI files in WMP9, specifically Trythil's "urban suite".(well, the direct dl one is)
The version to which I referred was a pre-release with XviD video and MP3 audio at 256kbps.
