Name of this effect?

Post by Noverca1is » Tue Feb 22, 2005 10:39 pm

Oh yeah forgot, i saw one anime and I feel in love with one of the effects.
Dont know the name of it, what tool or program I need to get it or the "how to" do it.

Example, Ill use common animes everyone knows:

Background image of "Yu gi oh" with several characters on the screen.
But out of nowhere, a pokemon is also sharing the same screen doings its special move.
normally you see that pokemon do its special move with a fancy strobe effects, but its not there, he just took that image out and placed it in the other image.

normally, I believe its called, in tv production land, ChormaKey
how do I do it?
I hope I dont have to literally crop each frame out and place them back into the frame I want to????

I hope there is a easier way, such as, captuing the movement of target, record it, remove it, replace it. It will follow that target for "X" frame so I dont have to go frame by frame which I sense the fear.
Editing is a tedious, pain stakinly job, I loved it, and getting back into it, but cropping isnt my thing.

Check the help file that comes with premiere.

I seem to recall that in some previous post you said that you studied tv editing or somesuch. Premiere uses almost all of the same terms, in mostly the same way.
Start by searching the transparency options, and 'chroma key' and either blue or green screen.

For what you want, you could either:

Create a matte if the shot is static, or a filmstrip matte if there is a small amout of motion.

Alternatively (I've had mixed results, and some pretty awful ones too) you could use the color replace, and replace out the back ground colors with a chroma key color. Try stacking the filter for additional colors in the scene till you are happy.

Use the transparency options.
Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

yeah I saw the chroma key option and was playing around with it, but didnt get no pop up or option.
rendered the clip afterwards just in cae, nothing

ii need a guide for common lingos, terms.. im seeing alot of different terms being used when I have it called something else.

such as mask, im kinda at a lost there, but it sounds famailar.

also, I found the effect, i believe its called rotoscope. and I just finished getting my adobe after effects 6.5 so I can begin to play with that.

any other software programs such as aftereffect I might be intrested in?
im not much into using SFX but I wouldnt mind having it in my arsenal in the future.

matte, mask, all those terms, I need to find the definitions, so, once again, i'd appreciate a link to a guide or post. spank you in advance

In flash we call it masking taking one image cutting it out and placing it over other images or just one.

How to do it in AE well I don't know, Id love to know if a guide does turn up i'd love to be first in line to get a copy.
