image sequence to RGBA in vdubmod

Post by bum » Fri Jan 07, 2005 6:21 am

I've got an image sequence of RGBA (area around image is clear) .pmg images in a folder, as an image sequence. I open them in vdubmod and for compression select huffyuv (2.11) with "enable RGBA compression" ticked. I render the file. I've also tried lagarith.

Problem is that it seems to render in RGB rather than RGBA. When I open it in vegas and put it on a vid track above another vid, it should play with the vid on the lower track being shown behind it. But it just plays with a black background around the image (im seeing this all in realtime preview) meaning that the vid was encoded to RGB rather than RGBA.

So anyone know how to force the encode to go RGBA rather than RGB?

Have a look at the color depth options on the video menu, perhaps?

Maybe it's a limitation in vdub's image sequence import? Try using avisynth's.

Although personally I'd use premiere's :P

You just had to sugest premier didnt you. But off course being loosy, loading a series of .png files would probably crash premier :P

Anyway, I tried importing the image sequence into vegas and it worked fine. Thanx for the tip.

Premiere doesn't have problems with lossy codecs, it has problems with encodes where every frame is not a keyframe. An image sequence would not be a problem.

(p.s. png is not lossy)

png is lossless? Damn, it compresses well.

And if premier (and most NLE's which experience problems with lossy video, which is most NLE's) has no trouble with lossy codecs as long as every frame is a keyframe (for example, encoding a vid to divx with max keyframes set to 1) then divx could be a good alternative to mjpeg when bait and switching with huffyuv, wouldnt it?

divx with every frame as a keyframe pretty much IS mjpeg.

I dont think that it's a good alternative, however, because mjpeg is chosen for its superior decoding speed.

Except Premeire 6.0 doesn't support PNG, and as I recall, neither does 6.5. Which is too bad, I'm a fan of the PNG format (even though I can pwnz0r it in terms of compression and speed 99% of the time with Lagarith).
Lagarith: Best lossless codec ever in my completely objective opinion.

Shhhh. I know this, but I didnt want to give bum another reason to presume premiere's inferiority :P
