Video overlaying question

Post by varxtis » Mon Dec 06, 2004 4:28 am

I have a problem that has been on going and I hope maybe someone can help. ok, you know how in photoshop they give you overlay options like hue, sof light, color dodge, and others for indless possibilities... Well I want to to crwate a DVD Title using a series of layers in adobe premiere, but I need to use some kind of overlay options to get the same idea that I made in photoshop. (it's hard to explain, but I need them in broken up layers in order to do what I want. I cant just put in my photoshop image) I have run into this problem before and people have told me (which seems to be true) that premiere doesn't have those option. But when I see videos on dvd's like this

I know that there has to be some program, or some method out there to use overlay options like with color dodge. Please help, this is very frustrating.

? are you meaning ... to "stack" one layer over the other ?
Image
this is done in many ways - or are you mixxing/blending something ?

well what you're actually asking for is transfer modes. (overlay soft light, colorburn/dodge ) and as far as i know premiere doesn't have that anywhere. But After Effects Does.

are you animating the layers that have the transfermodes applied to it? or are those stationary, because probably what you could do is merge the linked layers in PS and then animate the other things around it, without losing the transfermode on the stationary object. but if the section with the transfermode is the one you need animated, best bet would be AE

Basically I want this
http://www.mitsukai212.com/images/top_r ... decopy.jpg
as part of my DVD Title... and every few seconds I'll have it like wave or twich or radial blur... or whatever. Basically .... How do you make the same transfer modes in a video program, as you do in PS? (IE overlay modes.) and I need them to be seperate layers. What program does that?

PS...
By the way, the term they use in Photoshop is apperantly "Blending" options.
Layer Blending Options.
So I guess I'm looking for Layer (or in a video's case... clip) blending options

dangit, I really wish we could edit our messages... lol
OK... I went ahead and downloaded the Trial Version of Adobe After effects, and introduced myself to the BLENDING OPTIONS.... Spectacular.... (kinda curious why they don't have this feature in adobe premiere thought, ohwell) OK, Now I have a few different questions (sorry) ... how the heck do I import PSD layers into AF like I can in premiere. and how do I view a longer timeline? The default is at a full 5 sec or something. lol

Blending options/transfermodes are the same to me. I use both on a daily basis (AE has the switches/modes button on the timeline and most documentation I've read calls them transfermodes although PS uses blending modes on the top of the layer window why they don't just use the same thing is beyond me. )
Looks like you have quite a few questions indeed. what I would do just to get used to what you're looking at is read through the help file and get the "minor" questions answered. then you can start understanding how to "think in AE like you would in PS
