Help Mixing Please~

Post by taifunbrowser » Wed Oct 13, 2004 6:06 pm

Umm, Me and a friend thought it would be cool if we did our own music for our next AMV (see my 3rd vid: the one minute long video (didnt feel like leaving the link lol)) So, She got her friends together, and I recorded alot of little songbytes with them singing random parts of the song, I am currently using Acid to mix it, is there any suggestions to mixing trax that I should know of (some standard compression options or stuff like that) or should I just start splicing different things together. I dont know, I call myself a noob, so if I'm in the wrong board, just tell me lol

The Recording device was a 20$ microphone we got at radioshack, and I have a really quiet house (out in the suburbs) you can see my 3rd movie (the one minute long movie (Very original huh? Lol)) and listen to the background to see the quality that I get from it... as for the recording PROGRAM, I use... hmmm....I forgot the name.... one second... I'll post the program in a sec...

Oh well, Its either virtualdubmod, virtualdub, or dvddecripter (as you can see, I"m not on my normal comp) oh well, its some program thats not KNOWN for its recording, but it has a sort of "secret feature" in the audio panel, that works better then sound recorder does (It tells you the loudest and softest part of your recording, and smoothes it over so you dont get fuzzyness) oh well... I'll be home in about 30 min, and then I'll post the exact program I use... lol... cant believe I forgot that... Guess I'll always be a noob... lol.

Good suggestions both, though there's several $ difference *cough* if you go for Sound Forge...

Although I use it complements of my pro-musician father, and I find it a rather... nifty? Useful, anyway.

SF is very good for recording and a lot of the filtering, but for actual mixing, I'd suggest something like Samplitude. It also has very good noise reduction (although I've never actually used that program myself, I've seen my dad produce some rather professional-sounding mixes with it from scratch).

YAY

kk... I found the program- I used Exact Audio Copy (eac) and found that under the tools bar, there is a "record audio" option, so I tried it, and it looked a whole lot more high tech the sound recorder (LOTS of features...) and I tried it, and the eac's recording was less fuzzy...

Well, as far as the compression, you'd want to start with a PCM WAV. You won't need to worry about compressing down to mp3 until you're prepping your video for distribution.

As far as a guide to acidxpress, try the website of the company that made it, or check for a help file (it'd be in the taskbar of the program under 'help', most likely). All will be in there.

Oh, if that was the setup, then I'd have to suggest applying at least a light reverb or something to make it sound less flat. You may also want to play around with a graphic equalizer to see how you can enhance the sound (considering you said $20 microphone, boosting the higher frequencies might help).
