Latest XviD codec?

Post by rubyeye » Sat May 15, 2004 6:16 pm

what's the latest kind of xvid codec everybody is using and where can I get it? There seems to be more than one floating around. I have a couple of files I can't play.

1.0 final has actually been released, just not announced. There's a link around here somewhere. Alternately, you can download the source from the xvid.org CVS access and compile it yourself.

Or, even more alternatively, you can try using newest xvid 1.1 alpha. http://xvid.gamrdev.com/ .
Since it already gives much better quality (no more ugly bframes, walls don't move that much) it might be a good choice.

Do you use it? No interference with other applications or (encoded) video files?

You might say so.

No, why would there be any? It's still almost xvid 1.0, with its stability. The changes aren't that big and - more importantly - they are in xvid's core, not in VfW or directshow interfaces. Since it's interfaces that interact with your programs, the worst thing that can happen is artifacts/ugly quality/crashes when encoding, but not problems with other applications.

Glad to hear that the b-frames are fixed, sysKin. Good work!

Sounds good, I'll give it a shot. Last year my hard drive crashed and the fist signs were video playpack problems. Don't know what caused it but I've been paranoid about installing new software ever since.

XviD V1.00 Final is now available as an .exe http://koepi.roeder.goe.net/xvid.shtml

They've fixed the trellis quant, I may re-encode my Kenshin vid and see if it has any effect on quality
