Re: DVD's on Paper
Did you even READ the fucking article you moron? They're designed to be highly disposable and temporary, so you can just pitch them into a shredder to destroy information, rather than have a pile of CDRs and DVDs filled with important data that any moron can steal. So of course they arn't durable, and they're only about 50% paper anyway.bum wrote:and i bet that thier about as durable as a wooden oven

Well, there's washcloths and towels so there actually are lasting, reusable toilet papers...DJ_Izumi wrote:No, you're just stupid. Saying something like a temporary DVD wouldn't last long is like complaining of the lack of long lasting, reusable toilet paper.
Sorry, I'll go back on topic.
A lot of information doesn't need to be permanent. For example, how many people still run the original release of Win95 and need it's install CD? For things that will be quickly obsolete and forgotten a cheaper DVD media that only lasts several years would be fine.
Of course there's also data people don't want lying around. I imagine corperations and various governments would use something that can hold reasonably large amounts of data but are also easily destroyed to protect their information.

anyway, back on topic. im wondering exactly how safe dad will actualy be on theys disks, even if its temporary. i mean, will it last if i drop it on the ground ?xactly how sensetive are they ?. anyway, i reckon that the best use of theys would be if one needs to back-up all thier data for when mmaking a clean install of an os. but this technology is still a long way off. i mean, we dont even have proper dvd9 capable burners yet

meh, dvd10's are a pain. i mean, it just makes it twise as easy to scratch or dirty the disk. when dvd17 (or whatever its gona be called, dual layered duale sided disks) are out then the space would be worth it for back-ups. till then, dvd9 burners should be out soon enough anyway, seeing as dvd9 is being used for movies alot more now (the whole series of here and their, now and then, is in dvd9, got the box set today
)
