Help Making a VCD

Post by Shiroi Kumo » Fri Apr 23, 2004 9:31 pm

I need to get my AMV to VHS because for me to enter into a contest it must be on VHS so I'm having to make a VCD and my video is in AVI and apparently most programs require it to be in MPEG 1 format to burn to VCD.

I'd like to know what is the best way of going about this

Oh and I'm probably really stupid for asking this but....

Is VCD playable on DVD players?

TMPGEnc program has the ability to convert AVIs to MPEG VCD formats. As for your second question, it all depends; the DVD player usually says if it could play VCDs.

It also depends on the kind of VCD; I've seen DVD players that claimed they were able to play VCDs yet were unable to play my VCD 2.0s.

Some also have problems if the files are of different resolutions. One played two 352x240 episodes of a VCD fine, but then screwed up on the third, which was 640x480; the DVD player at my house played all three episodes fine. (yes, I know I shouldn't have been mixing resolutions in the first place, but still...)

You see the only way I can see of getting my video to tape is for the VCD to play in my DVD player and then record to the tape while it is playing.

Here is a Free trial for nero. Dead simple and easy to use. works with any format that you can think of. Drag a Huffyuv file rendered out at 720x480 and it'll convert that to your svcd, or vcd for you if that's how you like it.

Depends on the DVD player. Look up the DVD player you're going to use here. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers
