MPEG-1 problem
I've had this problem for the longest time. Whenever I watch MPEG-1 AMV's that were made with very agressive variable bitrates, I can't do anything with them. I mena I can watch them, but if I try to move back and forth in them, pause them, or ANYTHING other than watch, it just stops dead in it's tracks and doesn't move again. Sometimes the audio will continue while the video stays still, but generally it just craps out on me. Any ideas why?

I had this problem with TMPG encoded mpeg1s quite a lot when I used to mkae mpeg1s. I dont have any that are like that to hand but I remember once a TMPG encode where the whole middle section of a video had no keyframes.
Check in vdub for the keyframes in the section that you can't seek to as I'd be curious if that's not the culprit. Otherwise it could be a flaw in m$ decoding.

Well I went and tested it out. I went, opened up a video and counted. 20 to 30 second waits but it does actually seem to pickup after I want long enough. (The irony in this is the fact that I end up with a 20 second wait if I try to skip back or forward 5 seconds in the video.) And the video picks up AFTER the audio, so if I try to skip forward 20 seconds, I end up with a 20 second wait, if I try to skip back 5, I'm 15 ahead of where I wanted to be.) I'll go and checkout the keyframes now. And AD, I havent goen to check out the keyframes yet but the TMPG part rings bells. I remember Flux saying something about using TMPG for his MPEG-1 encodes so I'm guessing that's the problem.Zarxrax wrote:If you let it keep playing for a while does it eventually pick back up? I've had this problem, I always just assumed there werent enough keyframes or something.

I use Zoom player, so anything involving WMP would be moot.

The fact that Izumi was talking about MPEG-2 files with SVCD headers aside...trythil wrote:If Zoom is just another DirectShow front-end, then it's not moot.CaTaClYsM wrote:I use Zoom player, so anything involving WMP would be moot.

You're right, it is aside from the point. What you wrote, however, may or may not be true.CaTaClYsM wrote:The fact that Izumi was talking about MPEG-2 files with SVCD headers aside...trythil wrote:If Zoom is just another DirectShow front-end, then it's not moot.CaTaClYsM wrote:I use Zoom player, so anything involving WMP would be moot.
If Zoom Player uses the DirectShow APIs then it's quite likely that anything affecting WMP will probably also affect Zoom. You stated "anything involving WMP would be moot", which is incorrect, assuming the statement above to be true. I don't use Zoom, nor do I have any intention to, which is why that "if" is there.
Picky? Yes, but necessary.

Actually, it would be moot. Since I don't use WMP, and probably can't be convinced to do so.
