Has anyone ever ecountered this?
I installed premiere 6.5 and started my first project. I know hoe to use premire fairly exstensively. I am making a ff8 video and i have all the footage imported but when i render the clips they are completely black. The raw footage is in avi form and i have enough space on my Hard disc for the preview files. i tried reibstalling it but no change. I would really appreciate your insights thank!

sometimes its because the compressor you are using for your project previews is incompatible with the AVI footage. I've had odd occasions where XviD refuses to work, where Indeo footage (never again) renders as either black screen or technicolour static, and I've had really, really REALLY choppy video. If your footage is DivX 5.02 or XviD with the DivX 4CC, then try using DV codecs for the previews, either PAL or NTSC, depending on your location and the footage format. Thats what works for me. Yeah, the file sizes for the scratch disks will make you puke, but its reasonably fast, plus you can just delete the preview files when you're done.

ohhhh . ouch! . . that is a currupted Codec screen - usually seen when the Codec you are trying to watch with is older than the one it was encoded with!
I'd say . . possibly . . just re-install Premiere again T_T . . . usually, this kind of screen has funny little random green squares outlining the main charactors . . . . I haven't seen anytthing like this in over 5 years !!!
