This occasion was made possible by the awesome new format Matroska, as well as Gabset's new RealMedia directshow reader.
To celebrate, I've taken the liberty of encoding two mkv files, one with the latest XviD build and the very best settings therein, one with the latest Helix producer build and EHQ. Since these files are now indistinguishable by most usual means, I thought I would let you guys try and figure out which is which.
One of the two files below contains RealVideo and Vorbis audio. The other contains XviD and RealAudio (to make things interesting).
First, you'll need my Matroska and RealMediaSplitter Installer so you can watch mkv videos as well as realvideo in stuff like windows media player.
Second, if you don't have ogg vorbis, you'll need it
Third, if you don't have RealOne installed you won't be able to watch these, just because it's needed for the codec dlls that it installs. I'm gonna hook you guys up with a realone-less solution pretty soon, because while the player is okay now, people still bitch about it all the time.
Finally, download the two videos and open them in windows media player or whatever you like. I'd reccommend wmp6.4.
1.mkv
2.mkv
Post your best guess as to which is which, and which looks/sounds better. Both were encoded at 1024kbps video and 64kbps audio.
No cheating
