DVD burned video problems....

Post by Castor Troy » Sat Jul 12, 2003 8:44 pm

I just got a Pioneer DVR-106D burner today and it can burn...

DVD-R/RW
DVD+R/RW

etc...

So being the rookie I was at this stuff, I went out and bought imation DVD+R discs, took my 720 x 480, 29.97 fps, huffy NES projects and put them into Tmpeg and used the DVD NTSC settings like described on dvdrhelp.com then used the trial version of Ulead DVD Movie creator to make a test dvd and I let it burn.

Plays flawlessy on my DVD-ROM but...

My burned DVDs don't play on my PS2 (Compatible with DVD+R) or Apex 600A (Not compatible with DVD+R) so I tried the burned DVD+R on my family Sony DVD/VHS player and my sister's Magnavox and they play fine but....

The screen is cropped over 20% like VCD
The video is skippy
The video is pixelated

Sound is fine.

Any suggestions from the DVD burning experts on how I can fix these problems? Thanks.

I have the same Pioneer drive, but I don't know if I can help. I'm a rookie at this, too.

For AMVs, I've tried both DVD-R (Verbatim, Fujifilm) and DVD+R (TDK). Both types will play in the DVR-106. The DVD+R won't play in any set-top player I have access to, but the newest player is still about 2-years old (Toshiba SD1700). The DVD-R will play in the Toshiba and the picture and sound are fine.

I skipped TMPGEnc and let the Ulead program (that's MovieFactory 2 SE, isn't it?) do the VOB conversion from AVI source files (DV, not HuffYUV). These are the steps that I followed:

New Project: DVD
Add Video - <select DV AVI file from browser>
Uncheck "Create Menu"
Checked box that is labeled "First clip as first play video"
Changed volume name
Checked box "Record to disc"
Output Advanced Settings: <un-check Include project file to disc>
Drive: <Select DVR-106D>
Burner Advanced Settings: <make sure quick eject is not checked>
Insert blank DVD
Click on "Output", wait until burn is completed

I've tried some variations, too. Even made a menu once. The program seems to be good, but disc compatibility will remain a problem.

I just tried the trial version of Ulead DVD Workshop earlier and I was able to get my DVD+Rs working on my PS2 although I still have picture skipping due to interlacing.

I wonder why the DVD+R's pictures play perfectly with no interlacing on my DVD-ROM but when I play it on a standalone player, it's skipping...

Field order problem? That's a wild guess; can't think of anything else.

Yup, I just fixed the problem by adjusting the field order. Thanks anyways.

Plus the cropping is normal.... but looked pretty big thanks to some text I put past the 10% safe line...
