MPEG-4 on DVD playes
will it ever happen?
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

Now all I need is an MPEG-4 DVD.

I have the Kiss DP-450 and it's excellent. It can play divx files, mp3s, ac3 sound, ogg vorbis audio files etc that are recorded on cd-r, dvd-r, and so on. It also plays mpeg2 files without the need for authoring a dvd for them as it can read any cd or dvd just like an OS.Zarxrax wrote:Yep, I believe all the current implementations suck the wang though, unless I'm mistaken and something cool is available now :\
The only limitations of the player as it is sold at the moment is that 1) It has a max bitrate of 3Mbits/s and 2) it can't do divx3.11 but BOTH of those problems are fixed by firmware updates

It's a really nice player. The next model up (DP-500) comes with an ethernet card :O

It accepts the XVID fourcc and is compatible with all xvid options except gmc, qpel and I can't get interlaced encoding to work yet but I think that's a known xvid incompatibility.
Basically you can do any settings with the xvid stable build or use a developer build to add b-frames. Other advanced profile options in xvid aren't supported fully yet but at the rate the firmware upgrades are adding functions I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to get full qpel and gmc support working.
