any suggestions on how to use multiple songs?

So for my next amv im trying to use a couple different parts of songs. I was wondering if anyone has had experience working with multiple songs in an amv and if they had any tips on how to do this effectively. Also are there any audio mixing programs you would recommend? I downloaded the free version of virutalDJ so looking to see if that will be of any use. Thanks!
