Or you knew which 2 fields went together
You always know what two fields go together. Odd with odd, even with even. Unfortunately matching each set only gives you half a frame. You need both sets of fields if you want to reconstruct a WHOLE frame, and there's three ways to do that:

(1) Fake the missing fields by interpolation or duplication. This typically looks ugly, unless you reduce the number of horizontal scanlines by 2.
(2) Blend the fields together. This looks better, but leaves ghosting artifacts.
(3) Just stick the two fields together, which gives you those messy interlacing artifacts.

I thought there were two fields per frame, no two sets of fields :?

Fuck it. I hereby give this topic my official finger. It can be locked down now.
Ask me about my secret stash of videos that can't be found anywhere anymore.
