I was just thinking of something here. What if the guides were more modular... Currently they are broken into categories, but I think the ability to add/remove/edit/comment entries would be extremely useful.
If you check out the manuals on php.net or mysql the user comments are pretty helpful. Unfortunately it would be a problem if people used these to post questions :p. But they could be modded.
Also it would be nice if there was an automated guide suggestion system. People could write guides for certain categories. Such as the video game guide could be merged into the video guide and placed under "Getting Footage". The subtitle guide could be placed under pre-processing or even something like "Getting footage from : Fansubs / hardcoded subtitle anime"(ofcourse there would be a warning about not using fansubs if the dvds are available).
You could then slap things like the lipsynching guide under an "Adding effects" section. People could then add to it with their own effects.
Also this may help bring clarity to the guides as a user comment system directly in the guides system would allow people to point out errors in the guides easier, or maybe point out parts that need more clarity(people only see the bad, never the good, shame on them :p).
Anyways, just a thought, but I think it'd be awesome and it'd open up the guide section to alot more people since the current guide section is slow and cumbersome as well as not meshing with the rest of the site...
I believe maybe some premade phpWiki stuff could work, or maybe a custom solution :p.
