BTW, that's theoretically impossible. R1 or R2 DVDs are better than DivX MPEG-4s ultimately.

ok, mpeg4 is a better compression standard than mpeg1 and 2 in alot of ways. Of course encoding a DVD to divx and then comparing the dvd source to the divx as source the DVD is going to be better. But encoding a dvd to mpeg1 or re encoding to mpeg2 and taking that vs divx mpeg4 would clearly be better (at similar bitrates at least).
Figure out what you guys are arguing about before you start arguing. I believe cat was comparing the codecs themselves, not a master dvd vs divx.

BTW, don't take Larg0's advice. Ripping into DivX = bad.

Argueing in favor of MPEG - 4 vs MPEG - 1. I think the original footage should be used whenever possible, but if a lossy codec needs to be used I would sooner use MPEG - 4 than MPEG - 1.

Why do YOU even bother posting when you have nothing useful to contribute to the conversation? You know, it's possible to prove someone wrong without resorting to insults at the same time. If all you're doing is insulting someone, then DON'T POST. All you're doing is making these forums more unpleasant.
