That just ain't right... That shouldn't be getting cropped unless he has the worst TV in the world.

Are you sure you're encoding the DVD correctly or it's set up right? Cause like... That shouldn't be happening. O.o

1. I'm a girl...
2. I dunno, I mean I converted the avi to mpg in Main Concept, and chose 16:9 ratio format. Then I took the mpg file and used batchdemux and DVDAuthorGUI to make it into DVD format and burned it with Nero.

Maybe I'll try it on a different tv to see if it does the same thing...

Ok, I tested it on the living room tv which is bigger than the tv in my room, and it still does the same thing. I dunno if I should just make the text smaller, or increase the space on the edges or what....

:/

I think what I'll try next is to just burn the avi directly to a cd and try playing it in that format. My dvd player can play divx files. Then if the text is fine, I'll at least it know it's something that happens when I convert it to mpg or when I convert the mpg to dvd....only problem will be, I won't know how to find out exactly which it is after that. Oh well, might as well not worry about it until I test the avi. ^^0

How about this, does it look cut off when you play the DVD on a software DVD player on your computer?

CAuse those don't have overscan.. If it's still cut off, you did the DVD incorrectly.

Sorry for the double post again...

Just to note, the format I'm most concerned about is the mpg format because that's what I'm actually submitting. Is there any way to check if the actual mpg format will play okay on the tv, without hooking up my computer to the tv? (It'd be a major pain in the butt to move my computer to where the tv is, and vice versa.)

I know that when I play the mpg on my computer, the text looks fine.

Well, seeing if it plays back correctly on the computer before you burn it would be a good first step.

I just had a brainstorm.

I just need to ask, what kind of TV are you playing the video on, a standard 4:3 TV or a widescreen 16:9 one?

If the MPG plays ok on the computer, 16:9 widescreen and all, then try to check the hardware DVD player settings. If you have a regular 4:3 TV the player SHOULD letterbox the 16:9 video if it is set correctly (i.e. add black bars to the top and bottom of the video). If it is JUST cuts off the sides and not the top and bottom, you have to adjust the DVD player's display (TV type) settings to 4:3 Letterbox instead of 4:3 Pan-and-scan.

If you have a widescreen 16:9 TV and the DVD player is set to 16:9 then I'm at a loss.

Well, the ifo file plays fine in Windows Media Player. (For some reason, InterVideo WinDVD 4 would not play the files, even when I mounted it on a separate drive....)

As for the avi, I know the avi plays fine on my computer.

My tv is a standard 4:3 display. And the video footage is letterboxed on my tv, but I can't tell if the text clip is because it's on a all black background. Should I still check the settings anyway?

It can't hurt.
