Current version of Windows Media Player is version 9. Since you have 6.4 you could try upgrading to 9.0 and that would be more able to support newer codecs and file formats.
Start Windows Media Player, select Help, and Check for Updates. The computer should then connect to the internet and upgrade WMP to version 9.

X_X Wrong... I don't know of a codec that doesn't work with Media Player 6.4, as it is based off of DirectShow, which most players are. DirectShow is part of DirectX and when you update DirectX it should update DirectShow & DirectShow shouldn't be changed that often or else it will break things with older codecs/filters X_X.
