recommended "VOB to avi or mpeg" programs???

I have no idea what program to use to make my vob files into avi or mpeg files, or just any sort of readable file for my computer. I heard a lot of people talk about Dr. Divx, but when I went to get it at divx.com, all there was the trial for the "create a bundle" pack...

I downloaded that, and all it made my vobs into... Was a divx movie file, which can't be read by my editor, does anyone know any programs that are similar to dr. divx?
