APP Preview window and other such concerns

Post by Knowname » Mon Aug 01, 2005 4:09 pm

I had a project that I made in Premiere Pro, I extracted it (uncompresed w/ no audio) then put it on TOP of the project (so I could extract it again, you know, just to see what it would do ;p) and previewed it, the preview looked like ths:
Image
(after shot WHEN PREVIEWED FROM PREMIERE)

as opposed to this:
Image
(before shot WHEN PREVIEWED FROM PREMIERE, notice the fingers first of all)

I was looking to do a sort of do an aliasing technique on it and I suppose I did that... but that's not all, it also did 2 things.
1: Image
(before)

Image
(after, notice he seemed to grow a head out of his neck as if it's transitioning into another slide)

and 2: the resulting file was a bit (about 5%!) smaller.

I just wanted to 1- show this little 'tip' and 2- was sorta wondering what the heck I just found here... I mean, I suppose it's smaller cuz it's smoother therefore less to draw, but I didn't do anything but put the exported clip into the project... seems redundant to my simple brain -_- also I didn't mess with the opacity filter at all therefor it was at the default 100%, you shouldn't be able to see the underlying clips (the original clips if your not following me yet) at ALL! But there most deffiniteley is a difference leading me to beleive that Premeire does an auto smoothing of sorts upon export? well if so, plus if the file size is different with less to draw, why wouldn't the initial file size be smaller?? I tried to duplicate this process again by simply copying another occasion of the exported file into the project, but it only lessened the file size by less then 1% and the thing was already as smooth as a baby's butt so, not knowing what was going on, I just decided not to do it ;p.

I had also took both the earlier exported video into Virtual Dub AND the smaller exported video with the original cut laid on top of it while encoding and they looked like this

smaller video

as you can see they look pretty damned identicle to me... any idea why one is smaller and why the preview window is such a LIAR? Mostly why is it smaller and am I hurting myself by doing this??

Here's a thought on the fingers... (please correct me if I'm saying anything ridiculous, I'm not even sure I understand your post).
The clear image is from an avs script, and as such resized by the avs plugin (using lanczos or bicubic) for the preview window, whereas the blocky image is an uncompressed clip and therefore resized by premiere, using nearest neighbour, making it look like this. I'm not sure if I'm talking complete rubbish here, but I know the avs plugin does it's own resizing in premiere (for the preview window, I presume).

The second set of images looks like a blended interlacing artifact. Not sure about that one.

Also, are you sure you used uncompressed video? because two uncompressed files with the same resolution and the same number of frames should have precisely the same size, regardless of the content.

I swear... why do I even bother... this stupid thing erased my big ole long message AGAIN! Well I'll try and duplicate it.

Thankyou for your attempt of translating what I said, but I'm afraid your over-estimating me lol... I don't do AVS just Rip via DVD Decryptor, Cut via Vdub (into 640x480 Huffyuvs trying to use RGB though I forgot to click the force RGBA box) and compile via Adobe Premeire Pro (APP).

The thing with premeire is that whenever I export, it incists on blowing it back up to 720x480 with 20 frames of black so when I use VDub to get my Xvid I resize it down again.

Also the final tally comes from my final product, two Xvid encodes, one the original and the other being the recompressed. Therefore the last 4 pics are from the xvid encodes, I can't even watch the uncompresed, for some reason it stutters at like 10fps also I erase one to make room for another (while keeping my recompresion clip, it's only the middle of the video as I don't want to anti-alias the text... though anti-aliasing may not be what I did, that was my purpose).

I also had a bit of a feilds problem exporting from APP, easily fixed by exporting in uncompressed.
