Converting FDA and RAT Files to playable audio.

Post by Sporkmaster » Tue Jun 07, 2005 1:17 am

I am trying to extract the music from the Game Dawn of War. The way that they have it packed is in a SGA file. I can get past this part, but the files are in *.rat and *fda format. I cannot find a way to convert the files to a format that an audio player will recognize. I have been to the Relic website forum and to several file extension identifying websites and I only get two things out of it. The first would be that the file extension is called. “System SYSUTIL File” and that it knows nothing else.

Any help would be welcomed.

Sometimes extensions are just local file identifiers for that particular program; the actual format of the audio as far as encoding will be based on the known file formats. So unless you know, how to alter the file header then there is not much chance of getting it to play in anything but the game. The only option left is to lift the music "real time", hopefully there will be controls on the game where you can turn down the sound effects or eve turn them off, then simply record the audio straight from the game on to some sort of digital format, or whatever you feel happy with. Then transfer back to your computer. Once again it may be an idea to use a digital camcorder, since once you've captured on the digital media you will be able to create the files you require in something like Premiere by capturing the audio only and then exporting it.
