Oops my bad, MPEG-4 ASP will be decoded fine, I meant to refer to options such as GMC in XviD which uses more warp points than usual, but as you said the guides don't use GMC. It would be pretty useless in an AMV, not to mention bump up the CPU requirements for little or no gain, so yes, following the guides, outdated codec aren't an issue since it's only basic encoding.

I find that XviD has a funny habit of separating flesh and earth tones into reddish and bluish areas, while DivX doesn't. So I still prefer DivX even if it's much slower and doesn't score as high on synthetic PSNR and SSIM-type tests.
