I decided to write up a guide describing how to convert various types of video to AVI on a Windows platform.
Here's the link for the guide:
http://www.geocities.com/qyot27/convert ... ction.html
I want to get some feedback on a few things before I formally announce it:
-Are RealAlternative and Quicktime Alternative capable of doing what the guide requires, or can it only be done with RealPlayer and Quicktime installed? If RealAlternative and Quicktime Alternative can do these things, how does the method differ?
-Is the guide easy to understand?
-Am I missing anything?
My motivation in writing this guide in the first place is
a) The threads that keep popping up in the General Video and Video Software sections asking how to convert WMV, MOV, RM, etc. to AVI.
b) The purpose of being able to convert to AVI and then to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 for (S)VCD or DVD.
c) I don't like EO Video. I've had problems with audio skew being introduced when I've tried to convert files with it [a problem I also have when using DirectShowSource()]. The methods I describe here don't introduce audio skew; at least in my tests they don't.

I expected this, actually (even if it's not the purpose of the guide; it's inevitable that it would be abused). I've deleted it. Requesting thread lock and/or deletion.
