Can field order change within a title?

Post by Jnzk » Fri Feb 11, 2005 3:24 pm

I've been ripping various DVDs and checking the field order simply from DGIndex. But now I've run into a problem.

I ripped specific parts of Key the Metal Idol disc 1 using the "chapters" option and stream processing to get only the relevant parts without audio. SmartRipper shows all episodes on the disc as one 3-hour title.

When I open the bunch of VOBs in DGIndex and move on the timeline, the display constantly switches between T and B. It seems to be random and change all the time. This happens with a single VOB too, but when opening it DGIndex prompts:

"WARNING! Opening GOP is not closed. The first few frames may not be decoded correctly."

Is this real or a bug? I tried DVD Decrypter but that didn't change a thing. Same with a full SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter rip without any special processing.

I did a little digging around in my DGMPGDec folder and found this little program called DGFix. I ran it on the resultant .d2v file and it found and corrected 4 illegal transitions. Could this be the answer? Can I be sure that the field order stays the same throughout the fixed .d2v?

I've heard that the Trigun DVDs do this a few times, just to spite people. :(

Lain seems to have same problem... But somehow I can't believe that field order could really change inside one VOB. Searching through Google and various forums, I couldn't really find much information on DGFix and if it is the right tool for this.

That is exactly why dgfix was created, to try and fix these broken streams. You should search the doom 9 forum for posts about this problem.
