Processing DVD footage from PAL encoded discs.

Post by Lurking Horror » Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:48 am

Being new to amv's, I set out to read all the guides listed in the section. I found VicBond007's guide about using DVD footage very helpful, and the most straight-forward guide that I've seen for a beginner (like me).

In the section "Using Telecide: Setting the Guide", he mentions that different values of guide can be used, but that they only concern video encoded with PAL. Since I live in Australia, most of the source footage I have access to is PAL, with small amounts of NTSC.

My question is this:

"What changes, if any, are necessary to the stated procedures in this guide in order to use PAL encoded DVD source footage?"

Also, if anyone has any other PAL-specific software/editing tips for making amv's, please share.

Well, i live in Holland and we have Pal here too, but working with Pal and NTSC is the same, you just need to change a few lines in the .avs file.
One thing however about PAL footage (as i have discovered) the interlacing is horrible, atleast with the dutch releases it is. There might be better companies in australia but the dutch ones suck.
They used Full Field Blend interlacing, really ugly and impossible to remove.

But anyway, if you haven't already, check out The Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides! on working and preparing the DVD footage.
