Converting .mov to .avi

Post by Shadow Wolf » Sun Aug 15, 2004 2:26 am

Is there a program or method to convert .mov files to .avi files? When I try to work with the .mov files in Premiere it says the file doesn't have any video or audio so I think it might be because of the format. I would like to conver them to .avi so I can work with them easier.

Of course, you shouldn't be using .MOV files as source if there's any way to avoid it. You're going to be losing quality when you convert to AVI, unless you pick a lossless codec (read: HuffYUV).

Also, if you're using Premiere 6.5 or lower, it ought to be able to read QuickTime files. Maybe you don't have the necessary codecs?

I would rather work with them as .mov but Premiere doesn't reconize them. It says that its missing video or sound when its not. I would think I have the codecs since I can view them in Quicktime just fine, I just can't edit them.

If by "Premiere" you mean "Premiere <b>Pro</b>", then yes.

6.5 or lower should handle it; I know 5.1 does.

I have Premiere 6.5. I also have Quicktime Pro 6.5 but it doesn't let me edit them as well.
