Here's a little program that I came across that might be a halfway decent alternative to Adobe After Effects for people that don't have the cash to spend on it. This program is free. I've not actually tried it, but it looks pretty decent from the screenshots.

Well I just tried it out for about an hour, here is my experience.
It crashed within the first 5 minutes that I had it open. After that though, it didnt crash anymore for the length that I used it. As far as compositioning features, I must say I was severely disappointed. I could not find any sort of motion or opacity settings. It does respect alpha channels however.
The interface is very clunky, and I imagine its what After Effects would have looked like on windows 3.1. It needs serious work to make it more usable.
It does have some sorta nice features though. It seems its mainly an effects program. It lets you do some (keyframable) 3d positioning and stuff, it seems that it will let you import 3d models, but I have not tried this. It lets you use virtualdub plugins, windows movie maker plugins, transitions, and some custom stuff like a basic particle generator, texture generator, 3d test generator, and shatter effect.
For someone on a budget, or working with windows movie maker, I'd say this is a pretty decent starting point. I mean it's better than nothing. Just not a whole lot better. Until it gets some basic compositioning tools like motion and opacity and such, its basically just a really basic effects program.
Maybe it does contain these features though, and I simply overlooked them. If anyone discovers otherwise, please say so.
