Let's say taking the anime character out of the anime

Can someone please explain to me how to "extract" an anime character/s from the video footage(so there's no background unless you add a new one). I've seen it done in a few vid's eg. Euphoria and US of Whatever

I don't believe it was done in Euphoria. But anyways, there's a couple different ways to go about it. The most common one is to export the clip as a series of images, and then cut out the character from each image in photoshop, then send the images back into your editing program.
The other technique you can use is to create masks around the character in After Effects and animate them. This is a little less work, but still very time consuming.

thanks very much and there were numerous times where it was done in euphoria as i have just bought the raxephon dvd and recognised most of the clip's used. e.g. the ep where ayato first goes into rahxephon you see a sort of behind view and him looking into a big "screen" well it was done there in the vid. Thanks again.
