Getting Started

Post by banzai_samurai » Mon Sep 08, 2003 7:45 pm

I'm sure this has been asked many times before. But really, who wants to go through alllllll those pages of previous posts. Hm? Not me, that's for sure.

Okay. I've read most of the guides on the site and did some surfing but I'm still lost. How does one start out making 'music videos'? I have songs and a plan of what I want with the song. I'm good at storyboarding. I'm just having trouble using programs and such. I think I may be using the wrong programs to do this so. Where do I start?

Tools I have: Windows XP, Win movie maker 2, DVDencrypter, DVD2AVI application, time, plans. ^___^ Well, now what? I think I'm doing the clipping all wrong and such. But just reading doesn't help me. Being artistically inclined, I need visuals or descriptive text.

Thanks in advanced. I just need a shove in the right direction. I'm tired of googling.

I think i need to clarify what I'm asking better. Um. I need a step-by-step procedure on how to get clips from DVD's. I got some episodes encrypted and I think I'm messing up with the DVD2AVI program. (Help on how to use that.)

Tell me the procedure you use to get clips from DVD's. I really don't care about details right now...I just want the basics. I don't care if my first few vids look like crap from a can. Basics first. Just like drawing. Simple first.

thanks.

1. Rip the vobs to your hard drive using smartripper.
2. Open the vobs in DVD2AVI and save a project file.
3. Make an avisynth script using the project file.
4. Either load the avisynth files into your editor, or if it doesnt support them, load them into virtualdub and save them using a lossless codec like Uncompressed or Huffyuv.

You'd better stick to reading the guides for that... far to complex for me to explain here.

Guess what! I have another question. I searched the guide inside out and couldn't figure out my problem. Okay. I have some downloaded episodes, some of them have no trouble opening in virtualdub. But there's a few that when I open I get the following error message...
Couldn't locate a decompressor for format 'DX50' (unknown)

VirtualDub requires Video for Windows (VFW) compatable codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

After scrutinizing the different files, I find that I think that the video file isn't compressed while the others are. I checked in file properties. ^_^ What should I do so I can get these episodes loaded on to Vdub so I can nab some clips off 'em?
