Somethin Screwy with my new vid(yes, this DOES belong here)

Post by SS5_Majin_Bebi » Tue Sep 02, 2003 10:24 pm

As a few of you know, I uploaded my new music video the other day - "Perchance To Dream", an X TV video to "Outside" by Staind. I've just heard a batch of complaints about it being full of "smires", whatever the fuck they are, and the index being broken (i know what that is and it's a complete bitch) among a few other things. Now, the video works perfectly at home on my PC (the one I made it on, incidentally enough) and on the PCs here at TAFE, with the only problems being the small framerate issue I mentioned in the video bio.

What exactly is going on here? I don't want to be told that my video is crap, or that it's broken and that I can't upload another copy, when I know FULL WELL that it works, and it works well. Is there anything that can be done about this, coz I REALLY want people to see my new vid in all its "glory" (i think it surpasses the first one I put here, not counting the FR issue) instead of it being resigned to the scrap heap with all the n00bs Linkinball Z videos.

I have no idea how to solve your problem. Now that I have posted saying so, are you happy?

A couple things that might help you:

1) How about posting a link to the profile of the video in question? Do you really expect people to go hunting for it just for the privilege of helping you out?

2) "uploaded" implies you put it on the donut. Did you actually download the file after uploading it, and make sure it played correctly all the way through, before confirming it?

Without seeing the vid's profile, or knowing what format it's in, I think the two most likely things would be that it got corrupted during the upload, or you have a codec issue, like you encoded it with XviD using special features not compatible with divx decoding, or something.

If you want help, make it easy for people to help you.

Yeah, I checked it, and the problems are inconsistent with what I've SEEN. I have seen pics of what were obviously my video, alongside video stream information showing, among other things: a Keyframe Count of 1 (thats bullshit, I checked and I have 141 keyframes), a decompressor of DivX 4 (WTF?? It should be DivX 5, if the problem is some ass with the wrong codec, I'm gonna be fuckin pissed)

Anyway it doesn't matter now, I got Phade to remove the "flawed" version from the server, and I'm going to put it up again, this time in MPEG1 format, which is (oh joy) about twice the filesize and only 3/4 the quality of the ORIGINAL version.

I *think*, that if you compress with xvid using the settings recommended in EADFAG, that it shows up with divx 4 as the decompressor, because the fourcc DIVX is used by divx 4, and that, or any version of divx 5 should be able to play back a file encoded with those settings.

As for why people had problems playing that particular file back, there are too many variables for me to make an informed guess.
