LSX MPEG2 and DX50 codec probs

Post by Warpwind » Thu Aug 28, 2003 12:53 am

First off does anyone know how I can get a file encoded with DX50 to play in anything else but DivX Player 2.1? I can get it to play in that but this player really rather annoys me and I'd prefer to use something else.

Second "LSX MPEG2" is a codec from the ligos corp but you have to pay to get it :x
Someone has asked me to a review a file in this format and there is not way I'm paying for it. Since I don't actually what to encode to this just decode is there anyway I can do that? Also I downloaded some stupid trial thing called "LSX MPEG2 encoder 3.5 demo" and it just looks like a program for encoding other formats to LSX MPEG2 and won't actually read the file that I'm trying to review.

So long as you have DivX5 installed you should be able to play it back. You can also use ffdshow.

MPEG2 is pretty standard across the board. You need a mpeg2 decoder. Look for something like "freedvdcodec.zip". I belive there is one on Doom9.org or divx-digest.com.

Codecs I have installed
-ffdshow - latest build just went and grabbed this yesterday in the hopes it would fix this.
-Xvid
-DivX 5.0.2
-ffvfw MPEG-4
-Nimo Codec pack v5
-AMVapp and AdvancedAVS pack

I thought for sure there was a MPEG2 codec in either nimo or AD's stuff... going to check anyway

Okay nimo has something called "The New Ligos MPEG-2 Splitter 3.0.0.17 " and "MPEG2dec.dll".

Shouldn't this allow me to play LSX MPEG2 encoded files?

No worries mate problems are all solved.

I reinstalled DivX5.0.5 and now my DX50 file will play in WM9.

And I found this
Can not play MPEG-2 file I have made.
MPEG-2 file can not be played only by Windows. You need to install a DVD software such as WinDVD, PowerDVD, then you can play MPEG-2 file with Windows Media Player.
Which answers my MPEG2 question... I have no DVD drive on this laptop so I have no DVD software, easy fixed. Looks like you were right about a "freedvdcodec.zip" Klinky. I just didn't understand you.

and what's wrong with nimo? I don't think it's ever given me any problems. Tell me what brings about this soul eating.
