Geeezus, Y'know, I'm no expert at this, practically an absolute newbie, and the manual is fine and good for telling what a tool does, but doesn't anyone just fiddle around with all the shiny buttons anymore? To find out what they do?
I learned most of what I know about softwares and such not by reading about it, but just saying hey, what happens if I click that and do THIS. Of course I'd say 60% of the time I had to quickly hit the CTRL-Z key to undo whatever nasty torture I had managed to inflict on my video clip/ image/ insert-other-editable-object-here. And not only that, for things that didn't work like I thought they should, or when I clicked every button and none of them seemed to do what I wanted, I could always go to yahoo, ask.com, google or any other search site and type in what I wanted to do like "Pasting part of one image into another in The Gimp" (replace "The Gimp" with whichever tool you are using, whether it be Photoshop, Premiere or MsPaint) and have always gotten at least one tutorial.
I understand you are excited to get the idea that's in your head, onto the screen, but I think trying a few self-support techniques might garner you a little better reception in the forums when you ask a question. It's alot easier to forgive someone who says:
"Ok I read this tutorial, and then tried to cut this out using that tool and paste it over here on this layer using this effect and it comes out all hosed, what am I doing wrong?"
than it is to read:
"How do I do this?" <given suggestion> "Thanks, now how do I do that?" (repeat ad infinitum.)
Just some suggestions from your friendly neighborhood geek-on-the-street
