How do you do this? [split a clip into vertical bars]

I'm trying to figure out how to do this. I want a clip split into 3 vertical bars. I'm trying to get the first bar to slide up from off-screen bottom and into place. Right after the first is in place, I want the second bar to do the same and go into place 'while keeping the first bar in place and without covering it up'. The same thing goes for the third bar.

Hopefully, you understand what I said...

You'll need to stack three identical clips on top of each other, each with different tranparency mattes.
