How would I figure out the bitrate setting??

Post by Bushido Philosopher » Wed Apr 23, 2003 2:22 pm

Okay when testing the DivX 5.0.3 retail version on a small clip, I noticed quite a significant file size difference between the lastest XviD root and it. On about a 1:30 clip it was about 15 MB less on the DivX run opposed to the XviD run.

Problem is that in order for me to continue testing I need to know how to figure out the bitrate in which to set teh bitrate on either a 2nd or Nth pass. I had been running the test on both codecs' quality base @ 100%.

Following ErMaC's guide it only shows how to produce the total filesize in kilobytes rather than figuring out the KB/sec. So if someone can give me a formula or something in order to figure this out I'd greatly appreciate it.

Take filesize and multiply by 1024 (1024kilobytes in a megabyte) and then multiply that number by 8 (8 bits in a byte).

Take the kilobits (the number you got from <size>*1024*8) and divide it by the number of seconds in the movie.
