Directory Structure
How do some of you organize your vob, d2v, ppj, and avs files on your hard drive. I just made a directory and then dumped them all in there, but my experince with web design says I have to be a more o rganized than this! Also, what is an IFO file?

An IFO basically contains information about a movie that is passed to the DVD player. For example, they contain information about locations of audio tracks, chapter stops, menu data, and so forth.
Thomas Mirlacher reverse-engineered most of the IFO file format; do a Google search on his name or stop by www.linuxvideo.org (a really dated site, but still has some neat stuff) and search the code repositories if you're interested in the internal workings of the thing.

Cool, I came up with a smiliar approach. I have a directory on my c:\ named for the video, and then all of the assets in subdirectories:
c:\AMV\crazy_vision\
\vobs\
\d2v_projects\
\avs_files\
\audio\
So far it seems to be working ok, but then ofcourse I just started!

Starting from C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\Project 'number'\
I have:
AVS Sources\
(where I keep my scripts)
AVI Sources\
(I keep my MJPEG sources here)
Music\
(Keep audio files here)
Titles\
(I keep lossless copies of my intro and ending bumpers here)
Hidden\
(I move the AVI Sources folder here when switching in my avs scripts)
Source\
(Images and .dvp files here)
Source\DVD'number'\
(I keep my .Vobs to their individual dvds here)
I find editing like this rather convenient. I keep my premeire project files in my root project folder.

I keep a folder on Orion (my editing drive) with a name for the project (usually the anime or song name + video).
Then I keep the first round of source pulling, the audio, the ppj, and any additional titles in that folder. Every time I need to grab more source I create a sub-folder on the HD and a new Bin in premiere so that I can keep track of what's been imported and what hasn't. Makes keeping track of clips easy because there's 30 at most in any bin and they're all nicely named so I know what I'm importing.
What, you thought I went through the hassles of using AVISynth?

I have a seperate hard drive, my D drive, built entirely for all the captured AVIs. They all stay in a folder called "captured footage" and are divided by series.
Working projects and beta videos go in a sepearte folder called "Working videos" with a seperate folder inside called "beta"
All completed projects either go in the "Wired Knight Productions" folder for my smaller Mpegs and AVIs for video distribution while full quality avis for cons go in a "con" folder.

i have a D drive too, and i didn't find out about it until late last year.. back when i didn't know jack about computers..The Wired Knight wrote:I have a seperate hard drive, my D drive

my D drive has 61.3 GB, compared to my C drive, which only has 14.9 GBs. my D:/ directory is mostly.. well, i make a folder named DVD Rips, and then i make more folders consisting of anime titles, which is where my vobs are located. i have a seperate avs file folder for some reason.. i like to be organized like some of ya.

my video files, audio source, and other misc. stuff are also put into their own category of folders.. i'd like to see someone who can work with everything on their drive(s) in their main directory.

I have a folder for my MPEG2 files / AC3 Files
I have a Radio Folder, which is almost all of my CDs ripped to MP3 (192 KBPS I know kind of over doing it but I don't give a damn).
So it's like this
/{Insert Name of Anime}/
That's where all my MPEG2 and AC3s are
And
/Radio/{Artist}/{Album}/
That's where my music MP3s are.
I keep my apps and media files on different Hard Drives.

I just bought a new 120 gig hd so I'm going to use that for editing only. I basically have a folder for each vid and in it I have several folders: Projects (for dvd2avi files, avs files, etc.), BMPS (any bmps I make, lol), and folders for each dvd that I rip with clips inside. This video in particular takes scenes from 10 disks, so I didn't really want to keep the vobs. Clips came in much handier.
