The Rules

Post by Radical_Yue » Tue Apr 21, 2015 2:11 pm

THIS IS NOT THE SIGN UP THREAD.

Description of the competition
The Quickening Tournament is a contest for videos made using anime and music. This contest is free and non-profit. The Quickening Tournament was originally a contest created/hosted by AMV France but was sadly, left unfinished. This version is being hosted by AnimeMusicVideos.org and is open to all nationalities and skill levels.
There are 60 spots available. Spots are available on a first come, first serve basis.
The competition will start June 2015.

Deadline for submission of Videos:
The deadline for submitting videos is fixed depending on the tournament schedule and match.
(Deadlines will be specified in each round)

Contest organizer
The contest is organized by AnimeMusicVideos.org.
Coordinator: Radical_Yue
Contact information for Radical_Yue

Conditions of Registration
4.1 The competition is free and open to all but the contest organizers and judges (screening and final judgment). Members of AnimeMusicVideos.org staff are allowed to enter as long as they are not involved in either judging or coordination.
4.2 The closing of registration is set for June 2nd, 2015 at 11:59PM CDT.
4.3 Only one entry per person will be accepted.
4.4 The video entries may only use Japanese anime and follow the rules of AnimeMusicVideos.org. You may use multiple sources if you desire to do so.
4.5 You may NOT use pre-prepared rotos, altered footage, etc... You may pre-prepare footage before your round begins but you may not alter it with effects. If it is discovered that have pre-prepared anything more than basic footage, you will be disqualified.
4.6 The final entry submitted by the participant must be a minimum of 2 minutes long.
4.7 Videos used for commercial or promotional purposes will not be accepted.
4.8 Participation in this competition implies full acceptance of this Regulation.
4.9 You MUST use the audio that is provided to you. You may alter it in any way you see fit as long as it still possible to tell what the original audio was.
4.10 You may add bumpers and title cards to your video. The bumpers/title card sections will not be factored into the judging/time limit rule.
Ex. 1 1/2 minutes of video + 30 seconds of bumper ≠ 2 minute requirement
4.11 You may use additional audio sources such as sound effects, voice overs, or original audio from the anime as long as the total length of additional audio does not exceed 30 seconds.
4.12 If you wish to join in the competition you must post in the official signup thread on animemusicvideos.org and select one of the groups with time frames you'd like to edit with. If you post that you're interested but do not post a group, then you will not be counted as an entrant. Only exception to rule - See 4.13
4.13 If you would like to enter but remain anonymous you must contact the coordinator in private. Aliases or fake accounts are forbidden regardless of the circumstances. In order to signup anonymous, you basically have to follow the same rules as everyone else. I will not accept any private messages about signups until the official registration goes live. I will be checking time-stamps of the messages to make sure we follow the first come, first serve signup style. Anonymous entrants will be treated the exact same as any other entrant, their name will just not be released to the public while they are competing. And on the subject of names being released, if you enter anonymous you must release your name when you are either eliminated or if you make it to the final round.
4.14 While judging is not blind, please withhold on posting your entries on AnimeMusicVideos.org or any other video service website until judging for your round has completed.

Sending Videos
The videos will be sent either via FTP (information will be provided to the entrants on the final day of their round) or personal hosting. You will be given information to upload your video onto a server but if you wish to use your own hosting or use a file transfer site such as mediafire, dropbox, etc... you can also do so.
If you encounter a problem while sending videos, please contact Radical_Yue.

Technical Considerations for Videos
6.1 The videos MUST follow these formats:

Containers: AVI, MP4, MKV
Video codecs: H.264, XviD, DivX
Audio codecs: MP3, AAC, WMA
Framerate: Up to 29.97 frames per second

6.2 The size (in megabytes) of the video should not exceed 150 MB, unless an exception is requested and justified.

Agreements
8.1 Each participant hereby agrees to that he/she is the sole and exclusive author and does not violate directly and / or indirectly any third party rights.
8.2 Each participants understands that if they violate any of the previously stated rules, they will be disqualified.
8.3 Also, by participating in this contest, you agree that the decisions of the contest organizers and the judges are FINAL.

Judges
Radical_Yue - Hosts a lot of contests, is a terrible person, and really needs to make some more AMVs.
Kisanzi - Didn't want to do this but is a good judge so he's going to freakin' do it, damn it.
Ileia - Cupcake Queen and Princess of Pink, won the original Quickening and makes lots of AMVs.
irriadin - BUUUUUUUBBBBBBBBBBBBBBLES!
Phlashbak - Is a milkman.

Back Up Judge
Pic4 - German, angry, and did pretty well in The Quickening 2014. He probably doesn't like you.

Judging
Judges will be ranking videos from first to last and providing accompanying comments. The individual rankings each judge gives will not be made public, only the final result of the rankings. There is NO point based scoring system in place.

Audio

Each entrant will be required to submit 3 songs that they wish to edit with. The audio must be uncompressed WAV format or mp3 (minimum) 256kbps.
After audio is collected from all of the entrants, it will be randomized and assigned to different brackets. This means that you may get audio that was sent in from someone else in a completely different bracket. You must send your audio selections in to the coordinator within 48 hours after your initial sign up.

Trolling/Overused Audio: All audio viewed as "troll" audio will be removed from the list of possible songs. While we try to keep an open mind, the goal of this competition is to have fun and make great videos, not see who can edit with microphone feedback set to a beat and not smash their face into the keyboard in frustration. In addition to the troll songs, we are requesting for entrants to avoid sending songs that have been used in popular AMVs. If you are unsure if the song you are planning to send qualifies as a song used in a popular AMV, feel free to contact Radical_Yue for clarification.

Miscellaneous

Results/Winners
The entrants will be placed in brackets of 10 and will slowly move forward, reducing the number of entrants every round.
Entrants have 1 week to produce an AMV with the audio they have been provided with.
After the deadline has been reached, the videos will be sent to the judges for evaluation.
The judges will then submit votes based on the videos they have received, ranking them from first to last. The judges decision is non-negotiable and is not open for appeal. The top half will move on to the next round.
The Championship Round will pit the six best amv editors against each other, these six editors are the ones who have won all their previous matches.
The final winner will be presented with a $70 Amazon Giftcard, second place will take home a $20 Amazon giftcard, and third place a $10 giftcard. Note: Winners now have the option of having the prize money sent to them via paypal as opposed to an Amazon Giftcard.
[ <3 <3 POST HIJACK! ABUSE OF POWER! I'll also be presenting a special super-secret and awesome (and probably pink) award to the video that is my favorite of the whole contest, it doesn't matter if it's competing or non-competing. - Ileia <3 <3 ]

Grounds for disqualification
12.1 The disqualification of a participant is left entirely to the discretion of contest organizers.
12.2 Any use of moving works of pornographic, racist, defamatory content or likely to impair the physical or moral integrity will result in immediate disqualification of the participant.
12.3 Failure of one or more articles of this regulation will also be considered disqualifying.

Amendment or Cancellation of the Competition
The administrative staff of AnimeMusicVideos.Org reserves the right to modify, postpone, or cancel this contest without notice.

Non-competing Entries

We will be accepting non-competing entries. Non-competing entries will be expected to follow the same rules as competing entries. Anyone, including judges and AnimeMusicVideos.org administration, has the ability to send in a non-competing entry if they wish to do so.

Round 1 Non-Competing Entries: For the first round of the tournament, all editors (with the exception of judges) who submit non-competing entries are given the option of being a backup.
In the event of a drop(s) in the first round in any group, all non-competing videos that are submitted for that group will be presented to the judges and depending on how many editors have dropped, the best ranked non-competing entries will be selected to take their places. An editor may submit multiple non-competing videos for multiple groups, but only 1 video per round for a specific group. So if you wish to make a video for every single Round 1 group, then do it. An editor submitting a non-competing entry in the first round is not required to be a backup if they so choose. The backup/non-competing first round option is simply the chance for editors who missed the initial sign up to have a chance at making it into the competition, but it is NOT a requirement. After an entrant is eliminated they are allowed to make non-competing videos and are still eligible for the Judge's Choice award.

If you want the short but sweet version, this is how it works:
In a tournament style competition, editors are divided up into brackets depending on which group they've selected. The entire bracket is provided with a song. The editors in said bracket then have 1 week to make a video from scratch. The videos are then evaluated by our panel of judges with the winners moving on to the next round while the losers journey ends. Eliminations take place in a battle royale style where only the top editors/videos move on to the next round.

The available groups are A, B, C, D, E, and F. To see the schedule and decide which group would be best for you, please click on this link.

The schedule for semi-finals and finals is kinda impractical. I usually first need time to have an idea and prepare footage before I edit. When the editing times start at weekend for me as a working person most of the time would be wasted because I don't have much time during the week to edit after work... while on the other hand my footage could prepare itself while I'm at work and I would be ready for editing when weekend comes and theres lots of free time :nono:
hope you understand what I'm trying to say |:>

But pulling all-nighters when you have to work in the morning is half the fun! :D
