That looks like an awesome program but it doesn't seem like my capture card is supported by it... damn! that's sad :(. You may use the software that you have then :). woah! i dunno about teh guidelines but you might wanna try MeGUI and all the stuff it uses to have all these features packed up in an MKV.

Doom9's ma favourite place of all time for video stuff. You should visit it and I'm sure you'll find more than just guidelines.
