Re: State of the Org - 10-13-10
And another thing - and this has been a point of irritation with me stretching as far back as I can remember - there is somewhat of an idea floating around that AMVing (and definitely the .Org) is some kind of exclusive club. Yes, this attitude exists to one extent or another with just about any hob...

Re: Upscaling before of after editing?
Is your source HD to begin with? If its originally HD, then resizing to 848x480 THEN upscaling is just dumb. if its not HD to begin with, then just wait and upscale after you finish editing I agree it would be dumb if this was an HD source, but it's not. I wish it was! From NG's comments and my own...

Re: Upscaling before of after editing?
Well, it depends on if you are already using any other source. If you're just using the 1 source, and you're not going to do any effects, then up-scaling after would work just fine. If you're doing effects work, I'd suggest up-scaling before in order to make sure the final product will look good. I...

Re: Too many ideas!
Here's how I pick an idea: I sit on them all for about six to eight years, and then, after awhile, I get a better feeling for which I'm going to be really bummed about NOT making. Then, I start making one of them that seems the most interesting, but meanwhile I get bored or frustrated, so I work on ...

Re: State of the Org - 10-13-10
I'm going to say the first thing that came to mind: what I've always relied on the .Org to provide is a set of standards for the AMV hobby. This runs the gamut from the most basic belief in using quality footage to more abstract concepts like "originality" in an AMV. Yes, topics like this have been ...

Re: So you want to be a "Professional Editor"? Read this first
I may not be a "professional editor," but I am a professional graphic designer, with a full-time job, and I will say as I've said before that this AMV hobby has certainly helped get me to where I am. Ok, not everyone does what I do with my videos in terms of the graphic elements, but the bottom line...

I haven't managed to watch the whole thing, yet, but so far, so good. Thanks for letting my clip in Vincent/Footloose - I know it was kind of weird and...well, weird, but I've been sitting on that thing for years and it's awesome to know it got to be part of something like AMV Hell. Plus, now I don'...

Re: 2010 A-M-V.Org Logo Contest - Winner!
Congrats! I have to say, my immediate impression upon seeing the new logo on the site was: Ah! a-m-v.org, a kinder, gentler place... it's very nice to go back to a calm, solid logo. More <3 :) than :!:  I didn't realize until now how I sort of inflicted my chaotic, crazed attitude towards AMV...

SSG, you're killing me here. I go to New Hampster in a week for the month of October and none of my relatives have computers worth a damn. You've got to get 5 out this week! Argh! No pressure, though... I've got a computer worth a damn. If you really can't get AMVH5 any other way, I'm happy to burn...

Re: Photoshop technique for masking projects
So are you saying that one masked frame (only 1?!?!) takes around 10 min? My record for masking one complicated frame is about 50 seconds. Sometimes even less (if it's a closeup of a foot or something). :awesome: Tool? Technique? Results? Don't go flinging out numbers like 50 seconds without ...
