Re: Review - Tainted Donuts - E-Ko
Yeah, I guess this is just like the debate about doki's video about prior knowledge of the anime/context to really get into the feel of the video, and there's nothing fundamentally wrong with aiming to create a video with the expectation that your audience will have seen the anime you've used. Just ...

Re: Review - Tainted Donuts - E-Ko
When I watched this video for the first time, I was actually only barely aware of Cowboy Bebop and Trigun was unheard of for me. So it was only after some time later when I became familiar with these two distinct anime that I actually understood what the fuss was all about. So perhaps, that's where ...

Re: AMV Taboos/Stereotypes/Cliches: Old and New
Subtitles = bad. Granted this is more towards the use of fansubs, but I've seen quite a few amvs that pull off subbing the song, or use of subs in general in a good way. (I thought this was an obvious one lol) I've had QCs about Anime Academy Heroes saying it could have been better if there were no...

Re: Star Ratings in the Announcement Forum
Think what it would be like if every response in the announcement forum encouraged discussion instead of blunt evaluation of videos. Probably just more stuff for me to ignore. After editing all this time and reading comments given to other people's videos, I've heard practically every advise there ...

Re: Hall of Fame?
You can go from a year by year basis, one new Hall of Famer added every month since the start of the org. So for 2011, you would pick from people who joined up back in 2001. For 2012, pick from those that joined up in 2002. I know a decade is long (particularly in internet time), but I think the pur...

Re: Would any one be interested in....
Yeah, you're right on that note about the video content. We don't own any of the anime and certainly don't spend a great deal of time trying to get permission from the studios to use it. As such, any video using your music, even with your permission would still pretty much contain violations of copy...

Re: So you want to be a "Professional Editor"? Read this first
My biggest recommendation would be to just go out and make a short film or a "real" music video or something that ISN'T an AMV but still requires substantial editing. Try it out and see how much you enjoy the process and the outcome. If you find that you're just not having the same kind of fun you ...

Re: Just Pictures [AWA Expo Best Artistic Endeavor]
I might have to rewatch this when I'm in a better and attentive mood but I did find myself not being gripped by it and my attention wandering off while it was playing. I thinkt the length of the video played a part in that but maybe there was also the expectation of something a bit more fleshed out ...

Re: Questions for contest coordinators
I haven't coordinated in the past year but the past 3 or so years before that count, so.... 1) Do you have a pre-screening process? Yep... used to decide finalists and judges awards. 2) If yes, do you have some sort of overflow screening? Eventually when the number of AMVs increased we did. As has b...

Re: Justin Rollins of Shining Fingers Studio passed away
Dang, I didn't see this coming. I just recently got his Shining Finger Studio shirt that he sent over for my video in Sakura Con. In truth I actually thought he was just kidding around when he said it on the Sakura Con thread and I was already happy enough that he acknowledged my video there. Don't ...
