PSP has limited CPU power and decoding abilities. That is a lot of H.264 features that people use on a regular basis aren't supported by the PSP (because they require too much CPU). Also resolution is often too high for it to handle, so you will need to convert the files anyway.

If your source AVI is 29.97, then you do not need to do anything with regard to telecine, so try leaving that line out.

As for MPEG-2, you might want to try this:

Don't worry about it. If you feed it 720x480, you should get 720x480 back if you didn't change too many settings. The reason it appears to be 720x540 is due to the aspect ratio. You see when you set the aspect ratio when you encode it, that's telling the player to stretch the input on playback (in t...

Try removing mftoon and then fastlinedarken. They both create high frequency noise that is hard to code, and requires a lot of information. Also IMO mftoon looks pretty awful. It won't look at sharp, but it will look more natural and more faithful to the source. Really IMO sharpening is something th...

Multiple angles? Some DVDs have a textless Op/Ed on one angle, and the regular on the other. Try smartripper.

Maybe VLC is buggy; or if you used AAC (such as HE-AAC PS) it doesn't really understand it. Try a directshow player with the applicable codecs.

You would probably need at least 6-8 mbps down speed for decent quality H.264, which is a problem for people such as myself since I have an 8mb service, but my location dictates that I will only ever get 2mbps of that.

There is an option somewhere within FFDShow (probably the start menu) where you can disable the tray icon. Hit that and you should be good to go. You may also need to do the same for the audio tray icon, also found in roughly the same place

Well shit, I replied not seeing the 2nd page and I see that I basically said what LS5 said. LC-AAC is sweet. There are lesser known variants such as Main-AAC or LTP-AAC. LTP and Main are better, but for some reason rarely used. Perhaps it's the case that the relative audio CPU requirements, LTP is t...

Also downloading the x264 program and the .diff file won't make any difference. The .diff is just a patch that you apply before compiling x264 itself from source code. You need one of Sharktooth's builds; he includes any of these patches. http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=89979 If you find tha...
